Setting and Context
Climate and Culture
Thomas Jefferson High School has a culture that welcomes all and encourages students to be themselves. TJ is a computer magnet school so there are several technology classes offered such as: photography, video intern, robotics, 3D animation and Spartan Edition. The spartan edition is a news show that is created by students in the CCT program and is shown during every 4th period class. The spartan edition has created a great environment for students to be themselves. In the spartan edition, there is a segment where students interview staff and peers around the school which makes a great community easy for students and staff to get to know each other. TJ has many traditions that help create a fun community that help teachers build positive relationships with students and students build relationships with their peers.
Support
Students build relationships with many adults at TJ. Counselors are always there for support when a student needs it. If something is going on in a student's life, counselors reach out to teachers to make sure they are aware and to encourage teachers to also give extra support to students who may need it. Teachers are also encouraged to reach out to parents if a student is having trouble in a class.
